President’s Message
Greetings,
Plans
are nearly complete for our chapter’s 2008-09 activities. The Program/Roster books should be ready for
distribution at the September meeting.
We will be celebrating our 40th year and we hope you will
join us as we are excited about the plans for the year. I hope you will share in
the same enthusiasm and assist in the continuing operations of our
chapter.
Last
year we operated at the minimum necessary to continue as a chapter. We did not receive any competition awards as
we’ve done in the past. This year we
are striving for a full year of educational sessions usually on the third
Tuesday of each month. The first five
meetings have been planned with a tour commencing on September 23, followed by
a half day CPE October 24th.
Member interest will determine if we continue to operate according to
plans for the following months. We want
you to let us know if we should continue as a chapter. In order to keep your interest, the board
wants to know what activities you would like us to plan. Please understand that we, as a board, find
it difficult to invite a speaker and only have a few shows up to hear them.
Some of our speakers drive 50-100 miles one way to educate us. With the rising price of gas it will be
more difficult to ask them to drive for a handful of members.
Please
read your program book when you receive it and mark your calendar for all the
IMA meetings. We understand everyone
has a busy schedule therefore we have moved our schedule to earlier times so
that we can start at 5:30 and leave for home by 7:30. I hope to see you on September 24th.
Sincerely,
Sally Huff

SPOTLIGHT: CINDY VELLANO
Here’s
what Cindy said when asked “what’s happening?”
Well, I’m celebrating a
birthday today (Sept 9). I’m in my 10th year at Edgetech,
and continue to stay busy and challenged by the growth and changes in the
company. Still traveling to the UK and
Germany about twice a year to visit our satellite locations. Our UK facility has been manufacturing
product for a just over a year now, and has been very successful at producing a
great quality product. Both our UK and
German offices are realizing tremendous sales growth which is really helping to
offset the flat economy that our North American sales have been prey to. And I am very happy to note that Edgetech
was recently awarded ISO 9001 certification!!
I’m heading out to Las Vegas
next week for the 4th Annual Lean Accounting Conference. Bob and I plan to spend some extra time
there for R&R and to hopefully “invest” some money into our retirement
fund. J
Here’s
what the Times-Reporter Newspaper had to say…
Edgetech I.G.’s
Cindy Vellano has been named the Cambridge Rotarian of the Year for her service
as a member and treasurer. She is Edgetech’s controller.
“We are very proud of Cindy for this great accomplishment,” said Mike Hovan of
Dover, company president. “She is a true humanitarian who has an unwavering
dedication to everything she does. We will provide her with ongoing support as
she dedicates her time to important community causes.”
She also received the Ecology & Environmental Committee Award for
participating in the quarterly Adopt-A-Highway cleanup and helping distribute
about 10,000 pine, fir and spruce tree seedlings to area schools and the public
for Arbor Day.
She joined the Rotary in January 2007, and filled an unplanned opening as
treasurer that May. She is treasurer for the new handicapped accessible
playground at city park. The $200,000 project is the largest endeavor in
the club’s history, and will be complete in the spring of 2009. The club
has 70 members.
