President’s Message

Greetings:

If you missed our September meeting you missed an excellent presentation at the Marlite plant tour.   They had a display of the Marlite products over the years and what a big change.  Modern technology sure makes a difference.    It is interesting to see how products are made.

Fall is here and so is our half day CPE/CEU at KSU.  This is a great opportunity to participate in IMA professional development.  Friday Oct. 24 from 8 until noon a program on State Tax Update will be presented by William Nolan.  We are expecting 31 attendees, so I hope to see many of you there.

Sincerely,

Sally Huff

INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANTS

OHIO MID-EASTERN CHAPTER

  BOARD MEETING MINUTES, September 2008

Sally Huff, President, e-mailed the board on September 25, 2008.

Secretary’s Report - Minutes of the August 19, 2008 meeting were sent and there were no corrections noted.

Treasurer’s Report - Kim reported that there was no treasury activity for the period 08/18/08 - 09/17/08 with the exception of $.04 interest.  The reconciled treasury balance was $975.44.  Since this date, we had receipts from the September meeting of $235 and a cash disbursement of $252.63 to Trax Diner for the meal.  She has receivables from two individuals pertaining to the September meeting totaling $45.  I have suggested that these monies be brought to our next meeting. She received notification on 09/17/08 from National that our Chapter exceeded its membership goal for the 2007/2008 competition year and will be receiving an additional compensation payment of $168.75.  She would expect this deposit to be on the bank statement this month. Sally noted that she received a congratulatory letter about this award.

Administration - Polli attached a copy of the 2008-2009 Chapter Compensation-Competition Guide. She noted Sally is correct that we now are required to report monthly.  Therefore, she will need a copy of the attendance sheets as soon as possible. In addition to reporting monthly, she noticed on page 5 of this guide, that the competition year now runs from May1 thru last business day of April.  The August competition shows Ohio Mid-Eastern in 85th place with 949 Growth points.  The chapter in 1st place is another small chapter with 2013 points (113cpe, 150 cpa, 1750 growth).  So, if we can get members and grow, there’s a good chance we can catch up.  The goals set by National for our chapter are as follows: Exam Goal 3, Certification Goal 1, Education Goal 216 and Member Goal 39 (that’s where we are now).

Communications - Polli reported that the program book was emailed to our members, Ken Bechtol of the Akron Chapter and to Dena Botbyl on 9/23/08.  Last year she was able to email it, but she had not heard back from
Dena.  So, she will try to get Staples to print and mail 2-3 hard copies to Montvale.

Education - Sally thanked Kim for a great tour at Marlite which she found very interesting.

Membership -  Sally made a request for membership applications for the CPE seminar.  Polli attached a copy of the current IMA membership application. She was unable to input our Chapter Name and Number in the pdf file but she will type it on and make some color copies at home.

New Business -  Sally noted that the Web site is slowly being up dated.  She is taking a class and creating it as part of her assignment.  She reminded us that Ohio Council meets October 23, 2008 and the CPE at KSU-Tusc is October 24th.

ATTENDANCE: Sally Huff, Ken Grewe, Kim McBride, Polli Truman, Bill Welch

Respectfully submitted,  Ken Grewe, Secretary
