Bowerston

The village of Bowerston was settled in the early 1800’s but was not platted until 1852 and incorporated in 1881. Two crude mills were built on the south side of the Conotton Creek, which was then practically a wilderness. One mill was a sawmill, the other a gristmill. In 1804, Barnhard Bower and his brother John moved to the area and started to rebuild the mills. In 1816, the settlement called Bower’s Mills was laid out. Eventually it became known as Bowerstown, then Bowerston.
